The new leadership of the Nigeria Council of
Women Societies (NCWS) led by the
president Mrs Laraba Gloria Shoda on
Tuesday July 26, met with Wife of the
President, Mrs Aisha Buhari at the
Presidential Villa.
The new Exco was sworn in following a free
and fair election conducted during the NCWS
National Convention held between July 15th -
July 17th in Abuja. The convention was
attended by a 20-woman strong delegation
from Kebbi state led by the president of the
state chapter Mrs M Danga.
Amongst National officials elected and
present at yesterday was Dr Bilkisu Magoro
as well as the Kebbi state Patron and wife of
the governor Dr Zainab Atiku Bagudu. Mrs
Buhari as the wife of the president is by
constitution and tradition the Grand patron
of the society and she was formally invested
yesterday in a colorful ceremony.
Aisha Buhari tasked the leadership to review
its current constitution (which has not been
reviewed since 2005); to reflect current needs
of Nigerian women especially in relation to
over 2M displaced women and children. She
also asked the women to chart a course for a
greater future for women and children in
Nigeria. She emphasised the importance of
involving all stakeholders in building a
strong partnership as enshrined by the NCWS
slogan: SERVICE IN UNITY.
"I commend and congratulate the
National Council of Women Societies
and their newly elected President
Gloria Shode. The elections were
conducted freely and fairly in the most
democratic manner. The Council will
always have my support as they chart
a course towards a greater future."
said Mrs Buhari.

Minister of Women Affairs Senator Jummai
Alhassan, Mrs Akinfuluire SA SDG to the
president and former Deputy governor of
Lagos, Recent MD Niger Delta Development
Commission Mrs Ibim Semenitari, Dame
Pauline Tallen, Haj Hajjo Sani, Honourable
Asabe Vilita, wives of ministers governors
and other associates.
